While exploring Google Earth I found what appeared to be an old road network that split off the Shaxi Forest Road (沙溪林道), which is located in Pingtung county, Taiwan.
It appeared to be an old farmer road that possibly wound its way down the mountain, crossed a stream, then zig-zagged its way back up. Basically a loop. This is exactly the type of thing I love to explore, so I couldn’t resist creating a plan to go see what was out there.
From what very little info I could find, it appeared that this road had been abandoned from at least when typhoon Morakot ravaged the southern mountains – that would make it about 15 years since it was abandoned…but possibly longer.
With that in mind, I geared up for what promised to be a day of bushwhacking and headed out there real early. Let me say…I had a BLAST!
The video follows along with my hike.
