Ride Info
This was a fun little ride on the riverbed near Laochijia village. There’s a gate barring the way to the village here: 22.440228 120.695503 The gate is no longer there as of 2019.
It get’s a little hairy around here: 22.433164 120.709214
You might be able to ride straight up the river at the above coordinates if it’s shallow enough. I think I could have made it but I was tired and didn’t have the best tires for the job, so I felt like hiking it. Later, on my way back I met up with a local rider. He took me up into the mountains for more riding. There were mostly farm roads and lots of switchbacks. But at one point the trail narrowed to single-track and it got fun. Make sure you’re wearing tall boots or shin guards! You’re gonna get whipped! (you’ll hear me laughing about it in the video around 19’20”.)
Notes
- Rocks in the river had slime all over them. It was difficult to get decent traction
- River water seemed drinkable, but there appears to be a farm here: 22.416701, 120.727224 which worries me a bit. Past that tributary should be OK; but I’m not an expert. Just bring a water filter.
- 3 Liters of water didn’t last for me. Plan to bring more or a water purification device.
- You can call one of the numbers on the sign if you want to find a guide to take you up to Laochijia village.
